Riot Games announced today, December 9, that the 2025 VCT Pacific League will feature two new teams: Nongshim RedForce and BOOM Esports, competing for a total prize pool of $250,000. This upcoming season is set to extend its duration, providing teams with a steady competitive rhythm throughout the year, allowing fans to enjoy a richer schedule of events.
The 2025 season will continue to utilize a championship points system, but with some adjustments. This year, more teams will have the opportunity to earn points through global events, moving beyond just the Masters champions. At the end of the season, not only will the two teams advancing from the second-stage playoffs qualify for the championship, but the two teams with the highest point totals will also secure their spots.
Kickoff Event Details
The VCT Pacific League is set to kick off from January 18 to February 9, 2025, featuring a twelve-day double-elimination format. During this period, twelve teams will compete in a preliminary round. The four teams that participated in the 2024 championship will automatically advance to the second round of the winners’ bracket, while two teams from the 2024 qualifiers will be placed in different halves of the bracket. The remaining teams’ placements will be determined by a random draw.
The top two teams from the Kickoff phase will qualify for the season's first global event: the Bangkok Masters. Following the Kickoff, the first stage of the 2025 VCT will see teams divided into two groups of six based on their performances. Each group will participate in a single round-robin format, with the top four teams advancing to a double-elimination playoff, and the top three teams moving on to the Toronto Masters.
Second Stage Dynamics
After the Toronto Masters, teams will return to their respective regional leagues. In the second stage, the two groups from the first stage will be reshuffled based on their rankings. Teams will swap positions according to their standings, ensuring a dynamic and competitive atmosphere. Each group will once again engage in a single round-robin format, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the playoffs, competing for two coveted championship spots and the title of Pacific League champions.
Annual Championship Points
Additionally, two teams will earn their chances to participate in the championship through accumulated points throughout the season, emphasizing the importance of consistent performance.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 VCT Pacific League promises an exciting array of matches and a revamped structure designed to enhance both team competition and viewer engagement. Fans can expect a thrilling season filled with intense gameplay and strategic showdowns.
